Description

Feels like I've been working on this piece, which I painted for a contest, forever. I think forever is closer to a week and a half of lengthy sessions, though. :p I wrestled with achieving the right level of detail in various areas to maintain focus and unity. Clearly I'm still in search of the skills to use suggestion rather than explicit delineation to good effect.
PSCS2 with my own refs and lots of googling for inspiration.

Please, please, please, lend me your crits. :) I want to improve on it a bit if I can before submitting it.
Thank you!

Edit: Minor tweaks. :]

true about hands!
i like the two figures too.

Really great one) I like the colors)I'd suggest to work more on the sky near the bookcase and on the land near the carpet. Her hand has painful perspective for sure, but it still looks off)And..I'm not sure - maybe some more light on the bookcase..
Overall it is very expressive and atmospheric piece)
OOops - I've just saw the birds/books(?) - more details please!!

Good stuff. Little bit more details on the book would be good but the figures are great :)

Thanks for the comments.
Curlyhair: I think I will give a little bit more detail to the land where it intersects the bookcase. I wanted to show that it was kind of half carpet and half grassy/leafy stuff. I guess it's hard to depict that. :p A touch more light and detail on the closest books might be good, yes. *scribbles to do list*
I really must protest that the hand is uncomfortable. ;) No, really, put your arm back like that and your hand will naturally turn that way. It's actually kind of funny that the only position I could find that felt natural and comfortable looks kind of odd.
So, yes, putting books and floor on my list of upgrades.
Thanks again.

The level of detail is close to perfect! The whole painting is indeed balanced and very good to look at. There are no distractions, yet it speaks to the viewer. Perhaps the bookshelf could have held a few more small details, like letters or patterns on the book covers. That would have added a slightly higher touch of interest to the pic.
The two people are very well painted, both the anatomy, the clothes and the pose. And the way the room turns into the places in the book (I suppose) while they read, is a very creative way of showing how they 'travel'. And at the same time, you show their love and interest in each other is beautiful. Obviously, they travel together.
Your use of green and toned down colours gives the painting a calm mood, also emphasized by the peoples' relaxed positions.

Again, I appreciate everyone's feedback.
And, Jane, may I kiss you? :p Yeah, I added a few more details to the books, but maybe I'll do just a touch more.

This is a wonderful and magical piece of work! Love the choice of colors and perspective. The transformation from carpet to grass is excellent.

This is truly lovely. I love her pose and their interaction with each other. Though I do feel there could have been more details and texture on the books and the bookcases. Wonderful.

there's something about the woman's face/neck that bothers me, not quite convincing, but it's a really difficult perspective you've chosen..also the feet look a tad bit too masculine. but other than that everything's great. the concept's very interesting

Thank you to those who've recently commented.
killadore - Are you calling my feet masculine? Guess I won't be getting a job as a foot model any time soon. :p It probably is a little off; I am bad with feet! Alas, I have already submitted. Well, I will pay extra attention to those areas in the future. :]

hahah! sorry, was just an honest observation! but well, if it is any consolation to you, my own feet aren't the most feminine examples either! :p so on a second thought, i'm glad her feet are like that. makes her more realistic when she ain't the foot model type of woman, lol

interesting idea, having your library in nature.....how great should it be... to read between trees and birds..
the execution is perfect.

I agree with killadore about the neck of the girl. However, I don't really think her feet are too masculine. Perhaps if you just scaled them down a bit to make them appear more feminine?
That's a very good painting, with aa very STRONg concept. I like it. what contest was it? was it cypherx's on DA?

Incredibly beautiful idea and very nicely executed; you have a real skill in rendering vivid details while still maintaining a very strong focus on your subjects.

This is a very classical illustration. I think it would be better if some sharper details would be added, because it looks a bit too blurry and soft.
